aMEMBERS of Bere Alston Running Club (pictured right) took part in this year’s Grizzly, and Grizzly Cub, organised by the Axe Valley Runners. It gave 20 miles of tortuous trails for the Grizzly competitors, along with nine miles of hard terrain for the Grizzly Cub runners,

The race starts with half a mile of shingle beach running, along Seaton Seafront, before turning to head west, via the scenic South Devon coast, to Beer and Branscombe. At Branscombe, the Grizzly Cub runners return to take on the double challenge of the shingle at Branscombe Beach, followed by the infamous ‘Stairway to Heaven’, climb from sea level, up the seaward facing Jurassic Cliffs topping out at the 135m contour. While the cub runners are finishing their race, the main Grizzly runners head inland to the multiple challenges of hill and bog. The race finishes back on Seaton sea-front.
