Western Counties West
Tavistock 12
Bude 15
YET again Tavistock took the lead and led for much of the match but were unable to secure a win against lowly Bude.
The early pressure came from Tavistock and an early penalty resulted in a kick at goal but the ball drifted wide in the strong wind.
Good runs by Dom Connor and Dan Luffman came to nothing as the ball was lost in the tackle. A ruck in the Tavistock midfield saw Duncan Law steal the ball. Winger Lewis Edwards was put away and just as it seemed he would get the touchdown in the corner he was tackled out.
The first try came as another Lewis Edwards run was halted, but the ball was kept alive and fly half Rich Goldsby-West's long pass to Danny Luffman created space and he put Ben Hadfield away to touchdown near the corner. Rich Goldsby-West added the extra points.
The visitors hit straight back as a lineout just inside the home 22 yard line set up a rolling maul and they rumbled over for the try. Right on half time Tavistock increased their lead. A tap penalty just outside their own 22 set up a break and front row Martin Budden made good ground before offloading to Lloyd James who then worked the ball to Ben Hadfield who went in for his second try.
The second half started much like the first with the home side making the early running. From a scrum in the visitors 22 the ball was worked to Danny Luffman but he was tackled out in the corner. Both sides were now trading possession but could not make it count.
The visitors then reduced the home side lead when following a series of five metre scrums they were awarded a try.
A long kick through had Tavistock on the back foot but Dan Oner's chase back and offload enabled Rich Goldsby-West to clear the ball.
The final score came from the Cornish visitors as another five metre lineout set up a catch and drive and a Bude forward broke off to go over to put them in the lead for the first time.
With time running out Tavistock tried to find a way through but the visitors held on for the win.
