THE Okehampton Smallbore Rifle Club held their annual dinner and presentation of awards evening.
West Devon Borough and Okehampton Town councillor Christine Marsh presented the awards marking the end of another great season of shooting by the club's members in many disciplines, representing Okehampton across the Westcountry and nationally too.
In the prone rifle division, the club champion was Paul Batten and the ladies' champion was Di Johnson, with Adrian Hasell the bench rest champion. Di had a wonderful season as she also won the Kirkpatrick Cup for the shooter whose last three cards of 10 competition cards were the best. In the pairs' handicap knockout competition Di, together with Ivan Trickey, won the Scawen Shield. Paul Batten won the handicap competition for the Hain Cup and Grahem Spier won the VP Cup.
Newcomer Stuart Batley had an outstanding first season. He won the George Hooper Cup for the competition to score the highest above average and the Founders Cup for the individual handicap knockout competition as well as the Twinning Tankard for the best improver over the year.
In the 20 yard air pistol division, the club champion was Gorgs Geikie, who continues to shoot well following on from her Olympic debut in 2012. Jason Ponsford won the Frank Yeo Trophy and Jason was also the 10 metre air pistol club champion. The 10 metre air rifle club champion was Steve Lloyd.

The National Eley prone rifle competition runs over a year and has several knockout rounds before the best 20 in the country for each division shoot in the final at Bisley in August. Paul Batten and Lawrence Bennie both won through to shoot in the Bisley final — a tremendous achievement.
In the North Devon smallbore league, shooting indoors at 25 yards, OSC's prone rifle team of Stuart Bennie, Grahem Spier, Bernard Rendle and Amanda Elliott won silver in division two.
In the Devon County Smallbore Rifle Association competition held on the outside ranges at Budleigh Farm in Mortonhampstead, shooting at a distance of 50 metres and 100 yards, the OSC team of Paul Batten, Richard Miles, Martin and Amanda Elliott were the delighted South West County team gold winners.
Three club members shot their first maximum '100' scores this season —Stuart Bennie and Martin Elliott both shooting 25 yards prone rifle and Chris Gosnay shooting 25 yards bench rest.
Club spokesperson Amanda Elliot said: 'It was a great evening marking the end of a great season - many thanks go to all the organisers, especially Bernard and Yvonne Rendle and Di Johnson, with special thanks to Christine Marsh.'
