Okehampton 5
Dart 2
OKEHAMPTON men's hockey first team responded to their 5-2 defeat last weekend with a resounding display.
They started positively and exploded into a two goal lead, the opener coming from a quick short corner which captain Mark Parsons scored at the near post. The second came just minutes after when a sweeping move out of defence saw three passes find striker Parsons, who flicked it over the grounded keeper.
Okehampton dropped off their tempo but conceded when keeper Andy Harvey was beaten from a short corner.
Andy Strong had a couple of chances before half time but the visiting keeper kept the ball out.
After the half time interval the hosts dominated, extending their advantage with a well flicked effort from another short corner by Josh Speak.
However the home side had players sent off in the space of two minutes, with only nine men the away side started to gain more possession but could not break the home side down, with excellent work from Oke's defence and midfield.
Dart retrieved a goal back before the hosts had a man back and with ten men Oke scored again when the exceptional Hayden Bond found Luke Miller who reversed the ball home.
A fifth shortly followed when Miller doubled his account after great work from Sam Whalley.
The match ended on a serious note for Okehampton though as keeper Harvey had to be taken to hospital with a trapped nerve in his back, the whole club would like to wish him a speedy recovery.
