Exeter and district ladies’ five
Okehampton TC ladies 5
Sidmouth TC ladies 6
In their last game of the season Okehampton Tennis Club ladies team travelled to Sidmouth needing four points to win division five.
Oke’s Jackie Jarvis and Angela Herrod Taylor took a while to settle and to find form and disappointingly lost the first set 3-6. Frustrated by the opposition’s continuous lobs they worked hard to put their opponents under pressure and with some good volleying by Jackie at the net they took the second set 6-2. In the subsequent third set tie break they narrowly clinched victory at 10-7.
In their second match the opponents played a different game and the ball was struck much harder which suited the Okehampton pair. With lots of excellent rallies Jackie and Angela won the first set 6- 3. The opposition regrouped and took the second 6-2. In the tie break it was neck and neck all the way with the Okehampton pair eventually claiming victory at 12-10. This ensured the four valuable points for the Okehampton team.
Oke’s Beth Dennis and Kath Bolt started off well and quickly took the first set 6-1. In the second the opposition struck back and won 6-4. In the tie break Beth and Kath fought hard but were eventually beaten 9-11.
In their second match the Okehampton pair struggled with floodlights which made it difficult to see the ball. The opposition used their home advantage to good effect and won in straight sets 6-4, 5-7.
Although Okehampton lost this fixture overall by five points to six, they had accrued enough points to secure their place at the top of the table and to be division five champions.
Captain Jackie Jarvis congratulated all the team members on a fantastic achievement!

Okehampton men’s second pairing of John Jarvis and Sam Whalley battled hard in their first match to get to 3-3 but the title winning opposition stepped their game up to beat the home side 3-6, 2-6.
