Okehampton men 2
Truro 1
OFF the back of some good results, Okehampton looked to continue their winning streak against top of the league Truro.
Oke started with some quick interplay towards the Truro goal, piercing runs from man of the match Jack Watson up front caused havoc for the visiting defence.
After several minutes of pressure from Oke and excellent passing in midfield between Andy Paterson and Sam Whalley to the wide players Josh Speak and James Stevens, they managed to find Watson who won Oke a short corner; Whalley stepped up to dispatch the short corner into the bottom right corner and put Oke into a well deserved lead.
The home side continued to keep up the pressure on Truro but with a swift counter attack the visitors scrambled a goal past the in-form Oke keeper Jacob Jones making it 1-1.
Oke continued in the manner they started controlling the game and through excellent passing play up the right wing from Caleb Bourne, Whalley found himself in space on the right, and played an excellent cross ball to free Reuben Bourne, who coolly dispatched the ball into the empty net.
As the game went on Okehampton’s defence, led by captain Rod Gers and Rob Hall, repelled the Truro attacks with ease.
At the beginning of the second half Oke worked hard to keep their structure and continue to control the flow of the game. Central midfielder Luke Liversidge marshalled the midfield and kept the players in line. Oke remained strong and compact, with the Truro attacks coming thick and fast.
With ten minutes to go Oke looked set to keep out Truro and with crucial tackling from both Simon and Caleb Bourne on the wings they were able ot see out the game and claim the three points.
