Okehampton 3 ECV Hornets 3 OKEHAMPTON opened their pre-season friendlies against a team who on paper were much better. But the hosts started positively and in an opening ten minute spell were in complete control. Leon Oxenham gave them an early lead after the keeper could only parry Sam Whalley's strike. With the visitors all over the place the home side failed to improve on their lead and were dominated by the away side for the remaining period but held strong thanks to great saves by stand in keeper Rowan Perrier. The second half opened up as both sides started to fade in the heat. Sam Whalley fired the hosts 2-0 up before Hornets hit back from a short corner. The visitors then converted a second short corner to equalise but the home side rallied and won themselves a short corner which James Rogers turned home. The scoring was completed when the away side scored a third short corner and in an exciting encounter a draw seemed the fairest result. Okehampton will take huge positives out of the game as their defence looked solid throughout and did not concede in open play. n Next week Okehampton travel to Exeter to face Dart at 10.30am.
