IN division one of the Okehampton and District Table Tennis League, Milton Abbot A were at home to Okehampton A.
The first game saw Michael Blatchford play Steve Tyler. Blatchford found the move up from division two too strong with Steve winning in three sets. Tim Westcott lost against John Down. Autila Pochat saved the white wash beating John Squire in three leags. With the score at 1-4 to Okehampton, Autila won the first two legs against John, who fought back to win the next three to make it 1-5.
Tim Westcott took John Squire to a fifth leg decider, John winning 7-11. Okehampton went on to win the last two singles and doubles for a 1-9 win.
The Mixtures played Tavistock. Chloe Green away and Dan Bashford, who were both in division two for Horrabridge last year, joined Karen Stephenson for the Mixtures and found the team of Peter Hicks, Roger Bowkett and Jon Cheung too experienced. All scored maximums for a 10-0 win for Tavistock.
For the last division one match Anchorage A were at home to Bridestowe who won a hard-fought match 10-0. Colin Brooker fought hard taking Mark Fogerty, Phil Down and Francis Griffith all to five leg deciders. Malcolm Hopkins also took Francis to five legs just losing out 11-4, 13-15, 6-11, 11-7 and 12-14.
In division two North Wyke were at home to Gunnislake, who were playing their first time in the league. In a close-fought match North Wyke won 6-4. Mark Tooth and Enrique Berroka won two singles each for North Wyke.
Don Harkness won, but John Wilkinson did well for Gunnislake scoring a fine maximum in his first ever league match. Mike Alexander and Mike Kinger won one each. North Wyke won a keenly fought doubles match in the fifth leg 11-9.
Also in division two Okehampton C were at home to Anchorage B.
Ben Bocton put Okehampton 1-0 ahead in the first against Roger Gilbert. David Wilson leveled at 1-1beating Richard Rose and then went on to score a fine maximum. Jenny Gilbert won the other single beating Ben in straight sets.
In the doubles, Richard and Martin Rose lost in five sets to David Wilson and Jenny Gilbert 11-8, 11-8, 9-11, 9-11 and 6-11, for an honourable 5-5 draw.
For the last match Moretonhampstead were at home to Gunnislake. Moretonhampstead raced into 5-0 lead. The third game was a hard-fought game with Ricihard Underhill against Mike Kinger. Richard won the first leg 11-6 and Mike won the next two 7-11, 7-11. But Richard fought back winning the next two 11-9, 11-4.
John Wilkinson and Michael Alexander won two singles against Richard. Brian Skilton and Ken Underhill won all their singles and beat John and Mike in the doubles for an 8-2 win for Moretonhampstead in an enjoyable match.
