IF there’s one man who is not afraid to go the distance then it must be Tavistock running man Adam Holland.
Adam, aged 29, who has just completed a phenomenal 250th marathon ultra, has recently clocked up victories in the 12 hour Conte Lightning Run and the Shakespeare Marathon - both in the Midlands, where he is based. He also had great times in the Manchester and Brighton Marathons.
The marathon and ultra runner now lives and works in Nottingham, although visits his home town when the opportunity rises.
Last year had been a busy, but productive time for the former Tavistock Athletic Club and Tavistock College runner.
Adam’s 2015 diary: Between March and April he ran 24 marathons In 17 days in an average time 3.44.05sec winning 23 of the 24 races. May 2 to May 10 - the Cycle of Britain, nine days riding bike from John O’Groats to Land’s End, almost 1000 miles and helped raise £6,233 for charity.
September 4/5/6 - Guernsey, Epic48 World Record Challenge. 48 hours on a treadmill running 183.86miles, breaking many British records and two world records. Adam helped raising almost £34,000 for good causes. Sept 13 to Oct 7 - Champions Walk For Peace. 25 days and 2,200miles along the way visiting a university, schools and a church to walk/run with participants and hold the torch. Its aim was to raise £162,000 to make a peace school in northern Kenya. Oct 3,
Birkenhead ParkRun and Oct 4, the Chester Marathon, which Adam ran in an excellent 2hrs 28mins 29secs.
Adam said this year he would like to get my marathon times down and is looking forward to join Marathon Man UK Rob Young for a challenge of doing 100k a day over ten days. The run, at the end of October, will raise money for the Kenyan peace school.
He told Times Sport: ’I’ve enjoyed the past year; the only disappointment was missing out on the 50k British Championship because of a car accident.
I love being down here. I miss the people and friends and family and also running on the moors, which was like my back garden. It’s nice people are always asking my parents how I’m getting on.’
