ONE of the most competitive matches at Tavistock Golf Club is for the Callard Cup — a two round competition between the men and ladies. The first round was halved as was the second and as the ladies were the worthy winners the year before they retained the cup. There was tight scoring in division one of the Captain's Prize and medal but Jim Whitbread won the day with a nett 69 on count back from Steve Gilbert. Third was Nigel Roberts with a nett 71 on count back from Ed Smith and Mike Apps. In division two Ian Osborne came in with a nett 71, second was David Carter with a nett 72 on count back from Andy Furse. First in division three with a nett 71 was Dave Statton on count back from Jerry Bawden, third was Kevin Lethbridge with net 73. In the ladies' Stableford the excellent golfing weather produce good scores. First in division one was Fran Horton 37 points, second Tracy Sutcliffe 36 pts and third Elaine Cooper 35 pts on count back from Bev Ruth. Bridget Luckham scored 40pts in division two, second Sally Hills 39pts and Sue Stewart took third place with 38pts. Jenny Kay scored a superb 41pts to top division three, second Sue Pratley 39 pts and third was Helena Mitchell with 35 pts on count back from Sue Bailey. In the qualifying round of DCLVA Killard Leavy Trophy the partnership of Shirley Trevena and Pat Wylie scored 35 pts on count back from Elaine Cooper and Bridget Luckham. Shirley and Pat will represent the Tavistock lady veterans in the final at Honiton on September 23. In the Ladies' Closed Course Trophy, an annual match between Tavistock, Yelverton and Royal North Devon, Tavistock were this year's winners, runners up Yelverton. In the Daily Mail Foursomes Hilary Picton and Gail Reed continued their successful run with fifth round win over RND; they will now play Bigbury in the sixth round.

Tavistock Golf Club captains Bridget Luckham and John Harding share the honours for the Callard Cup.
