THE game started with an electric midfield battle between both sides.
Okehampton midfielders Ailsa Gibb and Nicola Stoneman pushed through the Hornets defensive lines and boosted the confidence of the visitors. However, within minutes of the starting whistle, the Hornets moved the ball fluidly through the Okehampton defence and were awarded a penalty corner and scored quickly. After this there was a flurry of further goals from the home team. Okehampton's defenders Sandy Douglas, Sophie Tripp and Katie Adams worked hard to drive the ball away from the goal, while goalkeeper Jennie Humphrys worked vigorously to defend the goal line.
Okehampton newest addition to the team, player of the match Anna Cherrington showed determination and passion to bring the ball forward through the midfield to Winnie and Lisalotte Rademaker. Oke, and Grace Thorpe in particular, had many attempts on goal during the first half but all were denied by the goal keeper.
The second half saw a more energised Oke side. Midfielder Viv Weatherington playing a free hit quickly to Rochelle Hillier, who crossed into the D for attacker Grace Thorpe to strike across the goal line.
Okehampton seconds played intelligent hockey during the second half, showing true potential to do well in their first season in the league. Molly Petherbridge was denied several times by the home keeper..
