IN division one of the Okehampton and district table tennis league leaders Tavistock suffered their first defeat of the season when Okehampton A beat them 7-3.
Naomi Jackson scored a fine maximum, ably supported by John Squire but Steve Tyler lost his 100 per cent record when he lost to Peter Hicks and John Cheong in the doubles — Fred Phillips playing his first time since his recent illness and John Cheong lost in the fifth leg 11-13 to Naomi and Steve Tyler. This win leaves them five points behind Tavistock with two games in hand.
Anchorage A played the Mixtures who could only field two players for the fifth time this season. Chloe Greenaway won the first against Colin Brooker to put the Mixtures 1-0 ahead, then Anchorage stepped up a gear winning the rest of the singles and doubles for a 9-1 win.
In division two North Wyke are the league champions after their latest 9-1 win over bottom club Okehampton B. Raz Wilson saved the whitewash beating Dan Harknes in straight sets. In the five leg set Helen Howard just lost out to Jill Whitely. North Wyke only lost one match when Okehampton C beat them 6-4.
In the first half of the season, Horrabridge did well to hold them to a 5-5 draw and the race is now on for the runner up spot, with Anchorage B one point behind Horrabridge and Okehampton C with two games to play.
Horrabridge played this week winning a hard-fought match 7-3. John Stewart scored another maximum, ably supported by Callum Sherrell and Bob Newcombe with two singles each. Roger Gilbert won two singles for Anchorage. Bob Newcombe took him to a fifth leg decider on his second, and David Wilson won one singles for Anchorage. John and Bob won the doubles in the fifth leg against Bob Wilson and Jenny Gilbert.
Also in division two Gunnislake were at home to Moretonhampstead in a hard fought and enjoyable game. Moretonhampstead came out the winners by 6-4. Ken Underhill won three, Graham Adnit two and Wendy Collin one, although she had to pull out all the stops just beating Mike Alexander 11-7 in the fifth leg. John Wilkinson won two singles and Mike Kinger won one. John and Mike won the doubles in the fifth leg against Graham and Wendy.
