Devon Cup

Tavistock ladies 7

Sidmouth and  Ottery 5

TAVISTOCK put immediate pressure on Sidmouth and they soon had a ’goal’ disallowed. Sidmouth hit the home sides defence quickly for the opening score.

With great work across the Tavistock midfield from Scott, Bassett and Armstrong led the ball to Lamb; she played a square ball across the D to Gaspar, who slotted past the keeper to level.

Sidmouth came back with a second goal and then immediately put further pressure on the home side’s defence; the ball was saved off the line by Mills-Hicks but Sidmouth pounced to hit it past keeper Viggars for 1-3.

Tavistock came fighting back with Colston up the right hand side, slipping across to Armstrong, who set Lamb up nicely for her first goal.

With another goal taken by Sidmouth, this saw the first half closing with Tavistock on the back foot.

Tavistock ladies came back into the second half looking strong. The home side opened up the second half with a well worked short corner from Lamb and Armstrong to reduce the deficit. Shortly after a great run from Mount Kelly student Lindsay, beating two defenders and into the D, saw her set Armstrong up with her second goal.

Tavistock were now in high spirits and a beautiful top corner shot from Lamb took them into the lead.

The home team then followed this up with two more goals from Nevin and Donnelly to put the home side into a three goal lead. With only minutes remaining and both sides tiring it was Sidmouth, who scored the last goal in a 7-5 win for Tavistock.

This win takes Tavistock through to the semi finals of the Devon cup.
