Okehampton ladies 2

Plymouth Marjons ladies second 0

FOR this a mid-table hockey clash Okehampton were missing some of their regular players.

Marjons attacked from the start but the Oke defence, under the guidance of centre back Abi Colton, rose to the challenge and marked their opposition tightly. Disciplined defence kept Marjons at bay and Oke worked well together passing the ball around and rapidly turning defence into attack.

The Columbine's hard work was rewarded when a long ball from the defence found Oke attacker Jo Moppett. She used her speed and skill to outwit the Marjons defenders and slot the ball past the keeper.

Marjons were determined to equalise and were awarded several penalty corners. They thought their luck was in when the ball went into the top of the net from one of these corners only for it to be disallowed for being too high. Right back Tara Davidson, joint player of the match, tackled strongly and set up Okehampton's second goal when she cleared the ball and found the stick of Jo Moppett, who made no mistake in finding the back of the net.Ten minutes before half time Oke were reduced to 10 players when Kim Davey was hit in the face by the ball.

The second half saw Oke back to full strength and the team were forced to defend for the majority of the half as Marjons attacked in waves. Oke soaked up the pressure well with goalkeeper Shannon Osman making several crucial saves.

This was a solid, resolute team performance enabling Oke to put them ahead of Marjons on the league on goal difference.
