Chagford 6
Exeter Civil Service 1
CHAGFORD finally recorded their first league win of the season with a comprehensive second half performance that swept aside the Exeter side.
Man of the match, Robbie Miller set the hosts on their way with a long range effort that the visiting goalkeeper allowed to slip through his hands to cross the line.
Chagford then began to play some delightful football but without creating clear cut chances. This allowed Civil Service into the game and Brad Cook bagged a 17th minute equalise, against the run of play.
Civil Service scented further openings and dug in to hold out until half-time.
Chagford emerged positive for the second half and they took the lead just three minutes later when Adam Pidgeon was forced wide as Civil Services' goalkeeper came out to meet him but the home striker fired home from the narrowest of angles.
Within minutes Pidgeon saw a fine header well saved and Chagford were encouraged to press forward more and Miller netted with a curling side-footed shot to gain a two goal advantage.
Civil Service were then awarded a penalty but their player clipped the crossbar and when Ashley Jackson crashed in a header for the fourth goal, from Mortimore's corner, it looked to be game over. However, 16 year-old Josh Stanbury who had come on as a substitute, took two late chances with such panache it is hard to believe this was his first few weeks in senior football.
This result will lift confidence throughout the whole squad.
