Devon C Chagford v Kingsbridge KINGSBRIDGE came near to securing their first league win of the season only to be denied by the bowling of Joshi and late runs from ninth wicket pair Del Lammonby and Neil Rowlands. Batting first Kingsbridge made a bright start with James Westlake being particularly aggressive against the Chagford quick bowlers but at the other end James Ellis (6), Will Matthewman (1) and Matt Peach (5) departed cheaply. Westlake and Alex Brown took the attack to the Chagford bowlers and Kingsbridge looked set for a big score. However, the introduction of Joshi with his spin changed the complexion as he quickly dismissed Brown for 19 and then followed up by having dangerman Westlake caught for an excellent 85 of the 122 runs scored while he was at the crease. Neal Peach with 19 added some late runs before he too fell to Joshi, but with the other batsmen making single figures scores Kingsbridge were all out for 150. At one time Kingsbridge were at 117-3 but tumbled to 150 all out adding just 33 runs for the last seven wickets. Joshi with 5-24, Neil Rowlands 2-14, Jon Wright 2-24 and the every reliable Steve Sizmur 1-29 were the Chagford wicket takers. Chagford's reply to this small total on a perfect pitch was poor, as Divan Marais (5) Craig Penberthy (2) Paul Penberthy (0) were soon in the pavilion. Charles Fitzroy was run out for 16 to leave Chagford struggling at 37-4. Jon Wright (22) Will Lammonby (13) enabled a slight recovery but with their dismissal and a duck by Denzil Penberthy, Chagford were 79-7. Joshi was out lbw for 15 but when injured skipper Del Lammonby at number 10 joined Neil Rowlands, he launched an attack on the Kings' bowlers with a quickfire 27 not out and with Rowlands 19 not out it gave Chagford victory by two wickets, in this thrilling encounter. Neil Peach was exceptional for Kingsbridge with 2-24 in his nine overs, supported by skipper de Silva with 3-41.
