AT almost the halfway stage of the Plymouth and District Summer League, Yelverton Tennis Club's three ladies and one men's teams have had mixed results with injury and availability affecting the performances.

Ladies Division 2: In week 4 the A team of Helen Smith, Karen Gasche, Ann Short and Wendy Sharland lost 2–6 to St. Budeaux A. Helen and Karen won the two points, whilst Ann and Wendy fought a tightly contested last match which lasted over two hours, narrowly losing 7–6, 6–4.

Ladies Division 3: The newly promoted B team are doing well, with Fiona Spreadbury, Jenny Kay, Jean Humphries and Angie Lynch drawing 4–4 away at Plymstock, with both pairs winning against the home team's second couple.

Ladies Division 4: The C team were also promoted last season and played against Ivybridge D, losing 2–6 with Lynne Mcfarlane and Carol Lyons picking up the two points. Hilary Monk and Fiona Lamb, who are new to the teams, played some hard fought tennis against a very good junior county player who proved too strong at this level.

Men's Division 4: Phil Gasche, Terry Leonard, Simon Murray and John Marshall played against a very strong Ivybridge B team but lost 1–8. Simon and John had to fight particularly hard to win the single point.

Yelverton are currently holding their Summer Fun Tournament, consisting of singles, men's doubles, ladies' doubles and mixed doubles matches with the finals being programmed for Saturday June 23. Fiona Smart and Ann Shaw have played their first round against Ann Short and Hilary Monk and won a closely contested match. More matches are being played among a busy league schedule, with the accent on fun.
