Okehampton ladies’ firsts 9
Plym Valley ladies’ seconds 1
IN this quarter final trophy game played in Plymouth, Okehampton started strongly and quickly opened the scoring to go 2-0 up within ten minutes.
Some strong umpiring led to a number of short corners on both sides, one allowing Oke captain Kim Davey to score from the top of the D and consolidate the lead.
Working solidly in the Oke midfield, Laura Parsons and Sophie Whitely pushed the ball forward and with excellent passing and teamwork their team were 4-0 up by half time.
The second half again saw Okehampton score quickly after the whistle. Winger Sophia Marshall determinedly called for the ball and both her and player of the match, Louise Weller, made some good runs using the width of the pitch to play the ball forward for Okehampton to gain more shots on goal. Weller was aided by defender Amanda Sim, who had pushed up and fed the ball accurately out wide.
Oke defenders, Nicola Stoneham, Nicky Pedrick and Ailsa Gibb did some excellent switching around the back of the pitch, keeping possession of the ball.
Although Okehampton dominated the play, Plym Valley rallied well and refused to give up. With both teams tiring in the last five minutes Plym Valley slotted a goal in.
The result, in this good natured game, was a well deserved 9-1 victory to Okehampton with goals from Jo Moppet, 4, Kim Davey, 3 and Annabelle Raddemaker, 2.
n Okehampton ladies will play either Teign ladies’ two or Mannamead ladies’ two in the trophy semi finals. They are away to Sidmouth and Ottery in a friendly match on January 9.
