Tavistock 27

Penryn 29

A PENALTY from the last kick of the game saw the visitors leave with the points after a thoroughly entertaining game which see-sawed throughout. Tavistock made the early running and following a period of possession in the Penryn twenty two, centre Viliame Masirewa released Lewis Edwards who weaved through tackles to go over for the first score.

The visitors responded and Tavistock had to work hard to keep them out.

They were getting close to the Tavistock line but the final ball let them down. Good breakouts were made by Dan Cunningham and Andrew Schuttkacker but Tavistock could not capitalise.

Then a long kick and chase in to the visitors twenty two set up a lineout for Tavistock.

From the resulting maul and drive, Tavistock went over with scrum half Richard Goldsby-West claiming the try which he then converted.

The visitors then hit back and following a series of rucks and drives went over for a try which they converted.

More good forward play drove the visitors back over their own line but the resulting five metre scrum was driven back and eventually the visitors cleared.

Right on half time Penryn snatched the lead. A sloppy pass on halfway was intercepted and the Penryn winger raced away to go in under the posts.

The second half started with both sides seeking an opening but good tackling saw both sides camped around halfway.

Tavistock regained the lead as a break by Dougie Lloyd put Edwards away down the wing.

Evading tackles he offloaded to the supporting Joe Elliot who made ground then returned the ball to Edwards who went over for a superb try which Goldsby-West converted.

Another soon followed as straight from the restart, Mark Friend charged down the pitch to the visitors twenty two and after being tackled, the ball was recycled and worked across to winger Dan Cunningham who outpaced the defence to touchdown.

The visitors responded and after a period of possession went over in the corner.

They then regained the lead as a turnover in their own twenty two enabled them to break up the wing and go in under the posts.

With time running out Tavistock worked the ball in to the Penryn twenty two and a penalty in front of the posts enabled Tavistock to regain the lead as Goldsby-West chipped it over. Straight from the restart Tavistock gave away a penalty but the ball drifted wide.

With the referee checking his watch Tavistock gave away another penalty and this time the ball sailed over to give the visitors the win.
