OKEHAMPTON’s Mari Baldwin was delighted to win her first major title when she claimed the Under-13 girls’ category at the Butterfly English Schools Table Tennis Association individual finals.

More than 300 players from 50 counties competed at the event at Aldersley Leisure Village in Wolverhampton, with boys’ and girls’ events in four age groups.

The 13-year-old was top seed and worked her way through the group and knockout stages to reach the final, where she beat second seed Scarlett O’Neil 3-0 (11-5, 11-4, 11-4).

It was an emphatic victory for the Okehampton College student, who said: ‘I’m excited because it’s my first national title.

‘My draw wasn’t easy but I managed to strive through in the end.’
