TAVISTOCK's Adam Holland has set a new record for running the fastest marathon in a ten day series. On Sunday the 27 year-old runner became the fastest person to run one marathon in a series of ten runs over ten consecutive days for the Brathay 10 in 10. Even more astonishing is that he ran his fastest time, two hours, 54 minutes on the last day of the series, having already run nine beginning on Friday, May 9. His time also placed him just 36 seconds behind the winner of the day one marathon. Adam's achievement, along with 13 other people who also ran ten marathons in ten days, has raised more than £92,000 for the Lake District based Brathay Trust and their work with vulnerable young people. Crowned the UK's most scenic marathon by Runner's World magazine last year the 26.2 mile anti-clockwise route circumnavigates England's longest lake, Windermere. It takes place in the honey-pot sites of Hawkshead, Newby Bridge, Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside. This is the eighth year it has been organised and the third time Adam has run in it. A delighted and emotional Adam was cheered at the finish line by a large crowd. He said the running conditions were good and despite the temperature the cloud cover had helped. Adam's next running event is the Seven Marathons in Seven Days between May 26 to June 1 and starting in Weston-super-Mare.

The crowds in the Lake District applaud the supreme marathon effort by Tavistock’s Adam Holland.
