Tavistock U14s 50
Plymstock U14s 19
TAVISTOCK U14s got a shock from a much improved Plymstock side who denied them any possession for the first ten minutes of this game.
Plymstock's bigger forwards drove Tavistock off the ball and scored an unconverted try in the left hand corner. This snapped Tavistock into life and they soon scored a good driving try from James Lewis, with George Hillson completing a difficult conversion.
As the Tavistock forwards started to draw parity, new players Chris Abbot and Chris Poyntz quickly adapted to the speed of the game. Poyntz, playing centre, tackled strongly all game and showed a good turn of speed with the ball in hand. Chris Abbot added muscle to the pack and was soon pushing back the Plymstock forwards.
The increased possession saw Ben Grove score a cheeky individual try dribbling the ball over the line before touching it down, which George converted. Ben Milligan added another before Plymstock rallied and scored their second unconverted try. Richard Cann was unlucky not to add to Tavistock's try count as he handed off an opponent and made a good break only to get stopped near the line.
Fortunately the forwards recycled the ball for Ethan Lamerton to score Tavistock's fourth, he showed good footwork to side step two opponents before scoring under the posts. George converted to make it 26-10 at the break.
The second half saw Tavistock take advantage of the slope and clever kicking from George Hillson and Ben Milligan pinned Plymstock back in their own half. This was helped by tough tackling from James Lewis, Chris Watts, Will Gardiner, Harry Jeans and captain Steve Kirby.
As Plymstock tired the Tavistock backs cut loose and free flowing running brought Ethan Lamerton two more tries before quick thinking from a tap penalty saw George score a classy individual try.
The final score went to Ben Milligan. George made sure the score kept ticking over by kicking five of his eight conversion attempts.
