Devon seconds E West Plymouth fourths v Whitchurch seconds A DEPLETED Whitchurch side made the short journey to Estover to play Plymouth fourths. Whitchurch won the toss and elected to bat first. Dunne and Tilsley added 43 for the first wicket aided by a plethora of extras. Whitchurch then collapsed to 53-4 and soon after were 75-5. Stand in skipper Powell and Luffman then turned the tables. Luffman hitting nine fours and a six on his way to a maiden league half century. Together with Powell (23), the pair added 84 for the sixth wicket. Luffman continued on his merry way helping his side passed the 200 mark. Eventually he ran out of partners and was last out for 89. Plymouth contributed 62 extras to the total, which also made for a long and slow afternoon. Whitchurch were bowled out off the last ball for 210. Plymouth owed much to the efforts of young Hagen-Burt. He bowled two spells with four wickets in each, to finish with figures of 8-36. Whitchurch took an early scalp in the Plymouth reply, before Watson (27) and Deane (26) righted the Plymouth ship. For much of the Plymouth innings the match was finely poised. The Whitchurch youngsters did an admirable job with the ball and despite conceding 20 wides, bowled much more consistently than their hosts. Dan Poole was the star of the show with 5-32, but he was assisted by Nathan Ord (2-27), Aiden Hall, David Northey and Louis Hollingson on debut. While Hope (71) remained, Plymouth had a realistic chance of chasing down their target. However, Poole bowled him and it was left to Ord to mop up the tail and clinch a tense victory.
