TAVISTOCK A 3

TRURO C 1

THE early exchanges suggested Tavistock were stronger, but Truro had experience and depth and directed play up their stronger right side.

Despite promising build-ups, Tavistock could not break the solid Truro defence. A scoreless first half looked likely when captain Josh Walker received a long ball, dribbled into the D and fired in a goal from a tight angle.

Tavistock started to control the second half, but a sudden break put Truro into the D and an unmarked player knocked the ball past keeper Osborne before he could see it.

Tavistock A stepped up the pressure but continued to fall just short of scoring.

It was not until the 60th minute that Will Russell seized his moment by slipping in behind the keeper to knock in a well deserved goal.

Vigorous end-to-end play followed as Tavistock piled on pressure and Truro kept making breaks. Strong passing down the left split Truro’s back four and Mark Northey seized the opportunity to put his head down and power the ball into the goal, pushing it past the keeper to seal the match with just a few minutes to go.

This was an exciting match to watch. Tavistock made good use of long, fast passes to switch their attacks and work the ball around the whole pitch.

The 3-1 result was well deserved. Isaac Staig and Luke Walker shone in the centre of the field for Tavistock and Searle and Kurtzman took control of the right side.

Man of the match was Tavistock’s Ed Cull whose solid stick work and intuitive reading of play broke down most of Truro’s attacks.
