Western Counties West
Truro 16
Tavistock 13
TAVISTOCK came away from Truro with only a losing bonus point to show for all their hard endeavour and the home side snatched victory with the last kick of the game.
The early exchanges saw Tavistock clear their lines with a penalty and from the resulting lineout and rucks, Rich Goldsby-West's drop goal drifted wide.
The first score came as a steal from a Tavistock lineout enabled Truro to burst through the middle and go over under the posts.
Tavistock hit back and a long kick through saw Ewan Smith and Dan Oner chase and in the ensuing ruck, Tavistock were awarded a penalty after the home side failed to release. Goldsby-West chipped it over to narrow the score.
Good runs by Charlie Furnival, Danny Luffman and Mark Friend all came to nothing as the referee's whistle blew for infringements. An injury to Oner saw him replaced by Will Tompkins at flanker.
The home side increased their lead with a penalty following a high tackle. A take and offload by Willy Gibbs to Luffman saw him go from 22 to 22 where he won a penalty but the tap and go came to nothing. Another penalty inside home territory enabled Furnival to break through tackles and go in for a try. Goldsby-West levelled the scores with the conversion.
Luffman was injured in the build up to the score and was taken to hospital but fortunately it was not serious.
The home side came straight back and regained the lead with a penalty in front of the posts. Good work by Kyle Browne and Furnival got Tavistock back into home territory and after more good work from Duncan Law, Tavistock levelled with a Goldsby-West penalty.
As the clock ran down both sides were looking for an opportunity to take the four points and it fell to the home as they were awarded yet another penalty which they kicked to snatch the win.
