Tavistock AFC 6

Bovey Tracey 1

THE Lambs produced another top quality second half display to run out deserved winners against a resilient side.

Tavistock were without captain Jamie Ahern, who sustained a cut to his eyebrow that needed stitches, after the Falmouth game.

Andy Meeds returned to the side after his holiday while Johnny Wyatt returned to the bench after recovering from injury.

The home team took the lead in the ninth minute when a superb cross from Chris Menhennick into the danger area, between defenders and goalkeeper, saw defender Fred Smith chasing back towards goal. His attempted headed clearance flew into the goal.

Five minutes later a poor back pass to the keeper saw Jarryd Kelly win the race but under pressure his shot went wide of the target.

Bovey Tracey came into the game and had periods of possession, but never really caused the Lambs defence too many problems. The game was fairly even for the rest of the half.

The Lambs increased the intensity in the second half and after wasting a couple of opportunities, it was Bovey that broke away and equalised in the 55th minute when a shot was deflected and gave Meeds no chance of saving. This spurred the Lambs into action and the introduction of Johnny Wyatt resulted in the home team taking the lead, when he produced a fine cross for Ian Rook to head home from eight yards.

Jarryd Kelly rammed the ball home to increase the home side's advantage, after another flowing passing move down the left, resulted in Wyatt producing the telling cross for Kelly to score. Johnny Wyatt then got on the scoresheet to make it four, when Dan Hart made a great overlapping run down the right flank. His delightful cross found Wyatt who coolly slotted the ball home.

Ian Rooke who had put in another good shift was replaced by Dan Pethick, who immediately had an impact, as he found Joe Carey with a tremendous crossfield ball, Carey got to the edge of the penalty area and produced a pinpoint cross for Wyatt to score his second of the evening. It was Wyatt again who was really showing that he is over his injury problems that provided the cross for Dan Pethick to head home in the 83rd minute to make the score 6-1.

Derek Pethick, the club's treasurer, told the Times:?'This was another great second half performance, and it is great to see the squad looks much stronger this season. There appears to be more togetherness within the team, and the will to do well. There is obviously going to be real competition for places this season and as long as the players realise that to do well in this league a really strong squad is needed, and that may mean a rotation system to keep everyone on board.'
