OKEHAMPTON LADIES’ THIRDS 0
ISCA AND EXETER UNI LADIES’ SIXTHS 5
IN their last match before the Christmas break, Okehampton thirds took on top of the league Isca and Exeter University sixths.
The visitors started strong and were straight into goal scoring mode but brave defenders Jenny Humphry, Lois Rowlands, Ligaya Coatham and Louise Weller, who took an early ball to the head, fought hard and along with their player of the match goalkeeper Laura Bazely, held off the early attempts on goal. However, despite a strong battle they were unable to stop determined Isca scoring again.
Centre midfielder Viv Weatherington was everywhere for Oke, working the ball up the pitch but also dropping back right into the defensive D to assist the harried defenders; hard working halves Sophie Tripp and Emma Pike were also determined but coming into half time Isca led 3-0.
In the second half Oke came out raring for goals and the play was much more even. Jemima Vereker controlled the midfield and drove the ball forward where attackers Chloe Stairs, Alex Collins and Jess Bowles were keen to shoot on goal.
Oke thirds started to play their game with some excellent passing and team work. Unfortunately for them a break for Isca saw them score and despite Oke never giving up and giving it their all, at the final whistle it was 5-0 to Isca.
