Okehampton ladies’ seconds 3

Sidmouth and Ottery ladies’ thirds 2

OKE seconds played against Sidmouth and Ottery third team in their first match in what can be best described as wet and windy weather which made for a challenging game.

The Oke ladies played their hearts out to attack in the first half and spent most of the game in Sidmouth and Otterys defending 25. Nicky Strawbridge hammered home the first goal of the match slamming it past a competent keeper.

Continued hard work and pressure from Okehampton created numerous shots on goal — all headed in the right direction but just missing and clipping the outside of the goal.

Nicky Strawbridge scored the second goal from a short corner, straight into the left hand corner of the goal at speed.

Sidmouth and Ottery came back and making use of a break to score their first goal of the game, sneaking past Okehampton defensive team of Daisy Morgan, Debbie Pritchard and Anna Luxton with Rachel Hammett as sweeper.

Nicola Bennie did a sterling job with the defence as centre back helping keep Sidmouth and Ottery away from the Oke goal.

It was challenging weather to play in but the supporters on the sideline helped keep the team’s heads up.

Sidmouth and Ottery made use of a second break and scored again, bringing the game to 2-2.

The teams worked hard but Okehampton kept the pressure on and kept calm to create a great opportunity with the attack drawing the goalie out for a strong pass to be delivered to player of the match Zoe Curtis; she got into space behind the goalie and neatly delivered the ball into the goal from a reverse shot.

This win keeps Okehampton at the top of the league with 18 points.

n Okehampton ladies’ seconds are away in the league to Dart seconds on November 4. Oke ladies play on October 29 at 2pm, hosting Mannamead in a trophy match at home.
