South division
Tavistock ladies 1
Plymouth Marjon ladies 2
WITH the sun shining, play opened with Marjons first on the attack.
Tavistock ladies made several tackles and there were clearances from defenders Langsford, Mills-Hicks, Pollack and Colston.
Following a Tavistock foot in the D, Marjon were awarded with a short corner. The ball came out top of the D for a strike on goal. This was stopped by keeper Viggers, who cleared but another Marjon attacker struck the rebound which was saved on the line by defender Colston who again cleared; however with Marjons now surrounding the goal, a final sweep saw them find the back of the net and take the lead.
Tavistock remained composed and worked to regain control of the game; midfielders White, Fenwick and Kelly worked the ball with quick passes to feed the attacking line. The ball moved from White to Armstrong who drove the ball to the back line and passed across the goal for Martin at left wing whose shot just missed the goal.
Tavistock retained the pressure and when Gaspar crossed the ball for Armstrong, who dummied a strike and left the ball for White; she struck the ball hard home to make it 1-1.
The second half saw Marjon step up the pace, clearly determined for a win to prevent potential relegation, the attacks came thick and fast. Another short corner awarded to Marjon saw keeper Viggers save and clear the ball wide. Colston moved the ball from the back to Mills-Hicks, who returned with a quick pass back to Colston; she ran the line and fed to Armstrong in the D. A Marjon foot gave Tavistock a penalty corner but it was cleared by the Marjon defence.
With six minutes to go, a long wide ball for Marjon winger won a one-on-one with keeper Viggers to put Marjon 2-1 up. Tavistock reacted at great pace with a short corner immediately being awarded to the home side; this came top D to Armstrong who laid the ball left to Fenwick but her shot was blocked.
The final whistle followed shortly after with a 2-1 win to Marjon. Tavistock remain in third place in South Division.
