Devon ladies' league

Tavistock CFC ladies 1

AFTER last week's tough trip to Newton St Cyres, Tavistock made the same journey this week for a league cup fixture.

The match started fast and furious and Tavistock found it hard to settle into their game.

With the pressure piling on from a fast, young Newton side, they took the lead with a fine shot from their pacey striker and the score remained 1-0 to the home team at half time.

The second half started in a similar vein to the first with Newton coming out all guns blazing. They got their reward with a fine shot which hit the inside of the post and shot into the back of the net — this summed up Tavistock's luck as they got into the game but each attack was thwarted.

With half an hour to go, Tavistock's Sarah Blowey scored a long range effort coming in from the left and unleashing from 30 yards to put the score at 2-1. This goal gave Tavistock a new lease of life and they had their best spell of the game putting the Newton defence under pressure.

Against the run of play Newton scored a third  with a fine solo effort from their impressive young striker.

The game finished 3-1, which ended Tavistock's winning streak.
