IT was a big moment for kickboxer Nathan Pollard from Tavistock when he competed in the Martial Arts All Styles Championships in Surrey.

It was the first time in the ring for Nathan, aged 14, who trains with the South West Kickboxing Academy and Martial Arts and Tavistock ABC.

His trainer SWKA’s head coach Steve Lilley said: ‘Getting in the ring is a big challenge for everyone, but Nathan’s commitment to his training has been fantastic since he returned in March, a bit taller and older.

‘Nathan fought well in his bout and drew great reviews from all the coaches who witnessed him fight. He was one of the stand out performers on the day and Nathan is now being considered for a British title fight in 2016.’

Both Nathan’s dad Jamie and Steve Lilley were proud of his performance.

Steve added: ‘Nathan’s performance was one of years of experience in the ring, he listened well and followed the game plan. We have work to do to be prepared for a future title fight in 2016 and need to get Nathan some more ring experience. We are hoping that in 2016 Nathan can bring back a British title to Tavistock.’
