Kelly College 27

Shebbear College 5

The last time these two rugby sides met, Kelly College defeated Shebbear 17-0 — of which the away side were keen to make amends for their previous defeat.

On a sunny, but cold day at Kelly College both sides found it difficult to achieve any continuity of play and it took a while to find their feet.

It was Kelly who broke the deadlock first with a converted try. From here, Kelly built a little momentum and entered the half time break with a solid 12-0 lead.

In the second half it was Shebbear who were first to strike failed to add the conversion. Inspired by captain Jonty Newton Kelly heads did not drop for long.

Despite the stop and start nature of this encounter, Kelly finished the game with a 27-5 win. They had their greater security of possession at the set plays, their dominant front row and some good ball from the line outs to thank for the victory.

n RUGBY teams from Kelly College travelled to Queen's College in Somerset last weekend and returned home with some close wins after some hard fought games.

The Kelly first team had a close affair with neither side willing to offer the opposition an inch. The result was a match in which scoring opportunities were few; however, Kelly team made the most of their chances and came away from the game with a narrow 5-3 victory.

Kelly College's U15 squad also returned to Devon with a 21 – 10 win.
