Okehampton U13s 61 Barkers Butts U13s 19 OKEHAMPTON started well against this touring side from Coventry. A break down the blindside by Kai for Oke saw him pass out to George H who weaved his way past defenders to hand to Noah and then onto Nathan, for a try. Oke scrummaged well and Tom S, playing at number 8, picked up from the back of the next scrum and ran powerfully down the pitch, uncontested to score between the posts for the home side. The visitors applied some pressure but Kai cleared Oke's line with a well timed kick, skillfully chased down by DaiChi. The bounce was kind to Oke and a swift pass out saw Noah go over for Oke's third try. A period of messy play in the middle of the pitch followed with errors from both sides and possession passed between the two sides with no advantage gained. Eventually Nathan, for the home side, was able to run at the opposition and handing off well scored again. The visitors were not to be deterred and applied sustained pressure and poor tackling from Oke allowed them to score just before half time. The rain then came down heavily and handling errors were evident from both sides but it was the visitors who were able to capitalise with a second try. Three more tries were then put on the scoreboard by Oke's DaiChi running into the corner past several defenders, Tom S running all the way again, and then scoring from a rolling maul by Oke. The whole of the Okehampton team though had played well to win and then keep the ball allowing their team mates to score. This dominant spell was ended with a third try from the visitors but Oke had not finished yet. Tom S showed his skill and strength again with a solo run but he passed out for another Oke try to DaiChi. During the next rolling maul Nathan ripped the ball from Barkers, with the backs passing out down the line. A fine pass from George H, straight to Noah, who scored again. A special mention should go to Jim, playing as full back for this match, for his kicking skills – converting eight of the nine tries for Okehampton, irrespective of angle or length. Okehampton U12s 49 Coventry U12s 14 DESPITE the spell of dry and sunny weather, Easter Sunday dawned wet and saw Okehampton host a touring team from Coventry. The young Oke side were determined from the start, with the pack leading the way with strong rucking and impressive scrum-maging, winning their own ball and a lot of their oppositions. Powerhouse, Barnaby Waddell, again showed his strength with crunching tackles, great yardage gain and a try to his name, but not without formidable support from Cole Pengelly, Saul Holliday, James Stevens, Jake Laing-Taylor and Jack Rutley. The ever safe hands of fullback Will Cunningham, saw the high ball dealt with and returned at pace, bagging him two well taken tries. Daniel Tomkins had one of his best games of the season, with strong tackling and running, seeing him touchdown twice, with Joshua McCulloch, as always head down, straight lines, crossing the line for two tries of his own. Coventry never gave up, but were kept to just two tries, as their backs were stifled by Joshua Burgoyne, James Close, Greg Haste, George Cox, Harry Laing-Taylor and Jordan Wilson, all up on them fast, closing them down with hard hitting, ball spilling tackles. This was an outstanding team performance, which impressed the Coventry coaches, who were very complimentary about the young Okehampton team, as this was only the second time this season their side has been beaten. Okehampton conversions: James Close (4); Joshua Burgoyne (3). Okehampton U9s 20 Barkers Butts U9s 55 ORFC today hosted a touring team from Coventry.
