Tavistock U15s 46

Bideford U15s 0

DUE to other commitments the game was limited to seven a-side. This gave great spaces for open fast flowing rugby. Tavistock did not disappoint, running in eight well worked tries.

Tavistock played with the blustery wind at their backs in the first half but nevertheless took some time to get a score on the board.

Hard work in the forwards by Georgie and Lydia Roissetter led to ample ball the threequarters. Rosie Crosby and Lizzie Cole broke tackles to race to the line.

The pick of the tries came from Lauren Abel, who broke through the Vixen's defensive line and with speed and skill sidestepped the defence and scored under the posts. She also scored at the beginning of the second half.

Scrum half Eleanor Mills and stand off Tilly Cole simply baffled the opposition by their variety of play and the strength of their ball carrying. They each scored tries. Tilly converted three tries.

Even with some key players missing, the town girls were too strong for the new-comers to the league.

FROM the outset Okehampton charged the Tavistock line and off-loaded to the impressive Barnaby Waddell (1), who went over the line.

Two further tries in the second half came from James Close (a try and two conversions) and Will Cunningham, and a conversion from Daniel Wonnacott.

OKEHAMPTON started this seasons campaign with two good wins against valiant opposition.

Bideford started the game with zest but were soon brought down to earth with a bump as the tries started to flow for the Okes.  Slick hands and fast counter attacks kept the away side on the back foot.  Oke ran away with the game but Bideford were still fighting to the end, which was commendable on their part.

FROM the off Okehampton dominated the game with superb team work.

It did not take long for Oke and soon added a second. This game saw Oke not only tackle with aggression and sheer determination but ball retention from rucks and mauls was their best so far this season.

With half time change overs Oke was in a good position with rested and fuelled players ready for the off.

The second game saw Tavistock come to life with some better team playing and some good passing but Oke pushed hard and scored two more tries.

There was superb play by Marcus, Ethan and Alex while the whole Oke could not have tried harder and are getting better each game.

Oke try scorers Ethan 2, Elliot 1 and Alex 1.

IN blustery conditions a well worked move by Okehampton sucked in the Tavistock defence creating a large gap for the visitors to charge through and open the scoring. James replied for Tavistock immediately with the first of several mazy runs ending in a fine try.

The half developed into a battle between two styles of rugby – Okehampton's impressive forward play opposed to Tavistock's adventurous attacking play.

With both sides displaying commendable commitment in defence there were lots of tackles. Okehampton shaded the first half 10-20 with Matthew B scoring Tavistock's second try.

Both teams fielded fresh players in the second half. The Tavistock boys began to gel as a team and started piling on the scores. Matt D went over twice, then Luke T and Luke D, quickly followed by Ashley while the home defence was proving effective.

With the scores level it was Luke T who rounded off an impressive Tavistock come back bagging two tries to give Tavistock a hard fought victory.

IN the first ever rugby match between Mount House and Tavistock College, the Mount House first seven played against a Year 7 college side.

Mount House retained the ball through several phases while the hosts tackled well but were unable to secure enough of their own ball.

For Mount House, Joe Beck, Ludo de Falbe and Bertie Hughes took their chances scoring early on. Further tries followed from Zach Clifford-Flower and William Richards. As the game progressed, Tavistock gained in confidence, scoring two tries of their own either side of an Ossian Brudenell-Bruce score.
