Okehampton U15s 10
Worth School 0
THE U15s had a three way game against Sussex touring school side
Worth College and local rivals Crediton.
Both visitors opted to play
first and against previous weeks form the Okehampton forwards were slow
to start.
The visitors lacked support play to cause too many problems. The length of time the visitors had the ball from the kick off was a cause of concern for the home team.
However late in the first half Okehampton played themselves into the opposition's territory and cause them some problems. At half time it was all still to play for and after the break Oke began to up their game. The forwards began to get involved and started to win the ball at the break down. The ball also started to be spread wider. Liam Pyle scored the first points diving over the line from a driving maul.
Although Okehampton looked in more control of the game now, some good defence kept the score to a minimum. Okehampton found themselves with a penalty in front of the posts on the 22 metre line. The decision was taken to go for posts to extend the score. The conversion and penalty was taken by Daniel Thorne.

THIS was a game of two halves. Okehampton were happy to stand
off and let Credtion run at them but after half time the away team sprung into action. Okehampton starting to use the pick and drive to good effect. AFTER a bright start, Okehampton faded badly in the second half, as one of the county's strongest sides inflicted a defeat that should have been by a smaller margin.
Oke played down the slope first up on the club's main pitch. They began with vigour and enthusiasm, as they had the better of the first quarter against much bigger opponents. Prolific number eight Greg Daniel gave Oke the lead their early pressure deserved, after he picked up and went blind from a five yard scrum.
Oke continued to ruck and pass well, George Ogbourne being particularly prominent up front, but as the interval approached they let things slip. Crediton's strong rangy wingers were already causing problems, and their right winger soon levelled the scores.
At 5-5 all at half time, things were going reasonably well for the home side but then Oke retreated into their shells and their lack of fitness began to show.
Crediton took the lead with a converted try, followed quickly by a penalty kick. Oke were struggling to escape from their own half, and the tackling was getting weaker by the minute, only Jack Ogbourne remaining blameless with some fine defence. Oke were failing to clear their lines effectively, and the pressure was telling.
Aided by slack defence, Crediton moved the ball well to take full advantage of their superiority out wide to score four more tries before the close.
The match was closer than the score suggested, but Oke never turned up for the second half and were guilty of showing too much respect for their opposition. This Sunday Oke U14s play Bideford.

AFTER last week's lacklustre victory, the boys turned in a performance that was nearly flawless in an exhilarating match.
In a good team performance, particular mention should be given to Jo S for his excellent ball carrying, Mo T for his non-stop tackling and work at the breakdown and to James M for making ground with every break.
From the whistle Oke were on the front foot, keeping hold of the ball and going through several phases of possession, before Daichi made a break. Nathan was then on hand to receive the pass and open the scoring.
A second try was quickly added after good work by the forwards enabled the backs to work the ball across the pitch to James J on the wing, his pace seeing him safely over in the corner.
A third try was added after great link up play by the back row, with Nathan providing the pass to Tom S who scored under the posts. This was then converted by George, one of his five on the day.
The fourth try came from a quick tap at the penalty, with forwards and backs combining to give Daichi the opportunity to score.
Crediton started the second half brightly, scoring quickly to reduce the deficit. Their joy was short lived though as Tom S ran in three quick tries to take the game away from them.
The icing on the cake for Okehampton was a break by fullback George who left the opposition in their wake to score under the posts.
Crediton added a consolation try late on, but all credit should be given to Okehampton for a dazzling display.
Wadebridge Camels U12s 0
Tavistock U12s 42
A CRACKING game of junior rugby unfolded at Wadebridge on Sunday.
Tavistock played Kiran at center and Matt) at full back, with debutante Luke on the wing and prop Jaxom playing his second game. They soon showed their hunger for the ball and flexed some pack muscle via Reuben, Ben, Luke W and Jaxom with the backs passing to create a first half mainly camped in the Wadebridge half.
However the Camels did not lie down quietly. A fairly even forwards game played out with both sides setting up rucks and competing hard for every inch.
The difference came with Tavistock relentless pressure, pushing them back and eventually leading to a try for Edward Tait after he caught a clearance to go over the Wadebridge try line. This was quickly followed by a try for Kiran Warner in the corner and one for Noah Berridge after some solid mauling by the Tavistock pack from a lineout.
The second half saw Tavy keep up the pressure and some good distribution from half backs Tom Persse and Edward Tait keeping the ball flowing wide which gave Ollie Sampson and Luke Edwards the opportunities to make strong runs down the wings.
Only determined tackling kept Tavistock out, but another five metre lineout catch from James Roisseter and ensuing maul saw Noah Berridge spin out and score. Kiran added another out wide and James Kenyon scoed a well deserved try from under a pile of defenders.
Conversions came from the boots of Edward and Kiran, with Luke Edwards earning himself the player of the match after a try saving tackle in the late stages .
Jack Baker and Dylan Owen played hard for both teams. The score line definitely did not reflect the ferocity of the Wadebridge team throughout the whole game. Both teams were a credit to their clubs.
