Tavistock U13s 24
Launceston U13s 34
LAUNCESTON pushed their physical game from the outset, dominating the first 15 minutes with some fine work in the forwards and fully deserving the first try of the match.
Tavistock were not to be cowed and came back immediately with a great exhibition of running rugby seeing Reuben in under the posts for Al to convert and take the lead.
Keeping the pressure on, solid work by the entire Tavistock pack provided phase after phase of recycled ball. Great hands through the backs and close forward support play saw Reuben receive on the line and score again.
Despite committed defensive work by the likes of Bailey, Morgan, Jack M and Jake, Launceston came back with their second to head into half-time only points behind at 12-14. Determination and good organisation saw Launceston take immediate control of the second half with two quick scores.
Morgan, Max, Bailey, Jasper, Jake and Soul in particular, spearheaded a tremendous effort by the whole Tavistock pack and centre field to hold back the onslaught.
When space opened up mid-field, Jack E kept things alive with a lovely solo run in under the posts.
Running in two more tries, Launceston gave all they needed to seal the match. However, the result was never a certainty with Tavistock always in contention. Collecting another great result from the ruck, lovely footwork by Al saw the last try come home at the end of a closely fought encounter.
Wadebridge Camels U11s 0
Tavistock U11s 55
POWER, patience and possession were the watchwords for Tavistock U11s at Wadebridge. The visiting pack worked tirelessly at breakdowns and scrums against a hard rucking side and dominated the scrums from the off.
Wadebridge were first to the rucks but Tavistock's power secured and turned the ball over to give them great opportunities to punch through and put Wadebridge on the back foot. Coupled with some great offloading and quick ball this gave Tavistock the chances to run in six unanswered tries in the first half - most from patient recycling, or quick line speed pressurising Wadebridge into spilled passes. Edward Tait, Noah Berridge, Dan Pett and Harry Edwards (2) scoring.
The second half saw Wadebridge bravely fighting on making some probing runs by their big players but the likes of Tom Scott, Dylan Owen, Kiran Warner and James Roiseter put in some crunching tackles in the middle with Cameron Hart and Tom Persse doing the honours on the wings.
Henry Varndell-Dawes, Ben Mckenzie and Matt Davey all made good yards with ball in hand to allow Harry Edwards and Davey to score. Harry Richardson ran in one in the corner after a tackle and a pop on the opposition 15m by Noah Berridge and Richardson chased down a clearance kick to feed Harry Edwards for his fourth. Dan Pett and James Kenyon sharing scrum half roles controlled the game well with lock Rueben Coleman supporting well
Conversions from Edward Tait (4) and Harry Edwards (2) sealed the win. To their credit Wadebridge fought hard throughout and did not let Tavy relax one bit. A great team performance with the forwards flexing their muscle nicely.
