Sidmouth U15s 22

North Okes U15s 41

SIDMOUTH took the lead early from two runaway tries which were unconverted.

Rhys Palmer opened the North Okes scoring with a good run but Jack Davey was unable to convert. This was closely followed by a try by Frank Smith. The visitors held their own and went in to the break with the score even.

In the second half they came out stronger than ever and with many players having to play in different positions, they threw down the gauntlet.

It was a strong determined North Okes side that controlled the second half with tries from Ollie Francis (2), Rhys Palmer, Jack Davey and Ryan Gross. Jack Davey converted three tries with ease.

The pack of Charlie White, Will Bedford, Charlie G, Richie Hann, George Courtier and Ryan Gross took every opportunity to control the game with great backup from Liam Mitchell striving for a try. Dan Vinnicombe had a crucial game on the wing to be part of a superb team performance played with determination and their fitness gave them victory that they deserved.

Tavistock U15s girls 12

Exmouth U15s 29

EXMOUTH came with a large squad while Tavistock had extra forwards but were short in the backs.

The game started brightly with good handling from the Exmouth backs and positive tackling from Tavistock's Lilly Hilson and Fenella Eastaugh. Good mauling from Chloe Dawe and Avril Trehane brought Tavistock into the Exmouth half. A quick ball from a set scrum allowed Lizzie Crocker at scrum half to break on the left and score wide out.

Exmouth soon saw that with the Tavistock line being made up of forwards that swinging the ball out wide and sidestepping the props would give results and they duly ran in two tries before half time and one soon after.

The game looked over, but back came Tavistock with a great solo effort from Lucy Jones to score under the posts and add the points. Tavistock were within one score with three minutes to go.

Exmouth then put some fresh legs onto the pitch and with Lizzie Crocker taken off injured, Exmouth posted 12 points in the dying seconds.

Tavistock can stand proud that this weakened team gave the large Exmouth squad a good match.

Thornbury U14s 12

Okehampton U14s 63

OKEHAMPTON U14's went on tour to Cheddar in Somerset this week and were blessed with three days of blue skys.

On Saturday they were entertained by Thornbury, a strong team that had not been seriously beaten for a number of years. Okehampton soon put pay to the record! They played probably the best rugby this season with the forwards dominated the set pieces while the backs created width and offloaded with exquisite timing. Matt Dennis walked away with three tries for Oke, Pat Ewen dotted down two, and there were single tries for R Peacock, T Strawbridge, B Horn, L Shinn, B Arnold and J Horn. Brandon Horn and Jacob Horn both successfully converted two of the tries each.

Frome U14s 5

Okehampton U14s 22

DAY two of the tour saw the Okehampton travel to Frome.

Oke took on an imposing side in Frome but the visitors simply denied the home side the ball. The game was always being played in Frome's half, and when tackles were needed from Oke, they were generally made. Oke tries from Jake Shinn, Pat  Ewen, Brandon Horn and Reece Peacock and a conversion from Jacob Horn.

The tour mascot, Felicity the flamingo, was retired back to Okehampton late on Sunday night.

RETURNING to the five team U12s festival at Paignton that they won last year, Okehampton U12s finished runners up on a sultry spring afternoon.

Oke began with a comfortable 28-0 victory over hosts Paignton; tries came from Greg Daniel, Leon Horn, Adam Wonnacott and Corey Holliday. Successful drop goal conversions were added by Leon Horn (4).

Okehampton saw off a bulky Brixham side 35-0. Five tries were shared amongst Greg Daniel, Ebby Vallance, Joseph Stratton, Jack Ogbourne and Kieran Coyle. Conversions were scored by Corey Holliday, Adam Wonnacott and Leon Horn (3).

In the final group game Oke beat a touring Avonvale outfit 14-0 through tries from Greg Daniel and Ebby Vallance; Leon Horn converting both.

In the final between Okehampton and Kingsbridge, neither side had conceded a point up to that stage. A strong South Hams outfit proved too strong for the brave Oke side who gave it their all in their efforts to retain the trophy. Kingsbridge came out winners by 21-7 in a hard fought battle. Kieran Coyle scoring the Okehampton try, converted by Leon Horn.

Sidmouth U11s 35

Okehampton U11s 12

OKEHAMPTON were the first to score with a try from DaiChi B after a quick lay off from Daniel T.

However, this lead was not to last long as a more dominant Sidmouth began to emerge. The visitors were poor in the ruck, with missed tackles and handling errors allowing Sidmouth to score three times in succession. There was a glimmer of hope for Oke after a strong run from Dai Chi B and a pass out to Will R resulted in a try. It was 21-12 at half time.

Okehampton continued to struggle to break through the Sidmouth defence in the second half and failed to make any more of an impression on the score. This was the last game in a long season and this was evident in Oke's performance.

Tries score: DaiChi Budiman, Will Risdon; conversions: Tom Stevens.

Sidmouth U10s 10

OKEHAMPTON are making hard work of their wins as demonstrated against a dogged Sidmouth side that would not be easily broken down. The games were end to end with possesion even.

Sidmouth had the upper hand in the scrums and Oke in the lineouts. Saul Holliday for Oke (1 try) at prop had a good all round game. In the forwards it was a hard day for Cole Pengelley (1), James Stevens, Jake Laing-Taylor and Barnaby Waddell with the latter making several strong carries. Harry Laing-Taylor (1), Robert Whitby and Jordan Hills all had steady games. Joshua Burgoyne, George Cox, Daniel Wonnacott (1) and James Close all retained possesion well around the contact area.

Will Cunningham (1) scored a trademark breakaway try, but the try of the two matches came from clean ball at an Oke scrum. The ball was spun from the base of the scrum to James Close who carried it upto the Sidmouth defensive line and made a good pass to the impressive Charlie Glanville (1) who powered his way over the try line to win the game.

Tavistock U9s 7

Bideford U9s 0

TAVISTOCK kept up their recent run of form with a clinical performance.

Despite Bideford having lots of ball, Tavistock hit them on the break time and time again with tries for Toby. Isaac, Daniel to make the socre 4- 0 at half time.

Billy, Ewan and William also had some great runs. Defence from Tom, Finlay and especially Daniel kept Bideford on  the back foot.

In the second half, tries from Isaac, following an excellent scissors move, Toby and Tom left the final score 7-0.

Tavistock U9s 2

Cullompton U9s 3

Tavistock lost their six week unbeaten run in a titanic tussle. Playing back to back matches, Daniel and Logan ran in early tries for a 2 - 1 lead.

Tavistock became sucked into Cullompton's mauling game  and were unable to release their runners and at the end of the first half the score was 2-2 tries each.

In the second half the Tavistock defence put in a superb display, especially Toby, Daniel and Isaac.

Ewan, Toby and Will all went close for Tavistock, in a terrific team effort, but the final try went to Cullompton.

Sidmouth U8s 5 tries

Okehampton U8s 9 tries

OKEHAMPTON were captained by Marcus who kept the defensive line straight and high up the pitch putting the pressure on Sidmouth.

The try scorers for Oke were Matt, Cameron, Alex, Isaac 2, Marcus 2 and Ethan 2.

This was a good team performance with everyone playing their part especially Holly, Josh, Morgan, Joe and Milo who were all good in support

Sidmouth U8s 6 tries

Okehampton U8s 5 tries

THIS game could have gone either way Okehampton were unlucky to lose by a single try. The score was not a true refelction of the match as most of the pressure came from Oke.

The passing and interplay was first class. The captain was Holly who used her vocal skills to keep the Okehampton players on their toes . All five tries were scored by Ethan Drew but it was the support play by the whole team which the most pleasing thing for the parents and coaches.

Sidmouth U7s 2 tries

Okehampton U7s 3 tries

THE Okehampton boys were in fighting spirit showing persistent attacking against the opposition and also a strong defence.

Dan and Liam showed some great runs for Oke and were unlucky not to be able to complete them with a try. Grady pulled an exceptional late tag to prevent Sidmouth from scoring and was often one to beat while Archie and Shea worked hard to maintain the high tempo of the game. Sidmouth were good with their tagging which demonstrated some quick passing between the Okehampton team.

Tries for Oke were Saul, Adam and Grady.

Sidmouth 5 tries

Okehampton 4 tries

SIDMOUTH went ahead with two tries early in the game.

Josh for Oke made a good run, passed to Adam who released quickly to Freddie who was unlucky not to score. Again tagging just before the line to prevent scoring was brilliantly done by Toby and Adam. Shea put in a determined run and scored one try while Adam scored three, two of from one end of the pitch to the other.

Okehampton have shown improvement week by week.
