OKEHAMPTON welcomed Torrington to the final game of the North Devon League.
This was a game that Oke had to win with maximum points to stand any chance of taking top spot and moving on to the Devon play offs. Oke did not disappoint against a spirited Torrington side who competed well in set pieces but with the Oke forwards and backs linking together and moving the ball confidently around the field the tries steadily amassed throughout the game with the home side crossing the line 15 time with five conversions.

TAVISTOCK started well and within ten minutes Will Paull went over in the far left hand corner to give the visitors the lead.
Devonport Services came back with some skilful passing from the backs but a they were averted by a try saving tackle from Bert Rogers. However eventually they broke through to make it one a piece. Back came Tavy and again Will Paull found space out wide and crossed the try line and a failed conversion made the score 10 -5 to Tavy.
Half time was looming when a loose ball came out of a set piece - Morgan dived on the ball, supported by the Tavistock wing forwards and Angus Hogg smashed over the try line. Harry Dunlop converted to make it 17-5 to Tavistock at half-time.
The second half saw a much rejuvenated Devonport and Tavistock struggled to cross the gain line or even contain the opposing team's forwards. Possession was won through a line out in the Tavistock 22 and Devonport went over to reduce the arrears. The home side got over the try line but a heroic defence held up Tavistock's stand out wing forward to deny the the try.
Oke U13s 49

OKEHAMPTON asserted themselves with some good attacking play. Daniel Thorne made a break up the far wing for Oke got tackled short of the try line but found good support play by Alex Browne to pick up the ball and dive for the line.
Liam Pyle scored after ripping the ball off a Bideford player and sprinted to the line. The remaining two tries of the first half came from Daniel Thorne showing his turn of pace and ability to fend off the opposition.
In the second half Bideford defended with more vigor and started to take the game to Okehampton. But the home side soaked up the pressure and Johnny King scored with a good strong run. Oke applied the pressure and after some good pick and drives by their forwards and good presentation by George Jeffery's found Joe Mawle go over for the second try of the half. Jack Raymond finished off the scoring tally after a good individual run from the ten meter line.
The last five minutes of play was all Bideford who were unlucky not to get a conciliation try. All the Oke tries were converted by Daniel Thorne.
Paignton U11s 7

THE home side came out stronger, scoring a try from the first period of play. This galvanised Oke into action and a charge down by Nathan from a kick out of a Paignton scrum resulted in a try by him. Kai had a good game at scrum half, attacking each ball out of the scrum and shadowing his opposite number closely. Dai Chi, playing centre, had several defence busting runs and one of these, after an offload to James, resulted in a second try for the visitors.
The forwards were well matched and it was difficult for either to gain the upper hand. Oke stole the ball in the line out and Nathan pushed over for an Oke's third. The last try came after Oke won a scrum and Daniel unselfishly passed out to Dai Chi on the left wing, to score again for Oke.
A second, short game followed which Oke also won 0-7. Tries: Nathan Tomkins (2), Dai Chi Budiman, James McCulloch (2)

TAVISTOCK'S defensive discipline and eye for a gap gave them the edge over the visitors.
Tavistock soon took control with some patient rucking moving the ball down the pitch for Harry Edwards to rip a ball from a maul and weave his way over the line. The home sides wall of tackling halted Services attacks leading to tries for Noah Berridge and Henry Varndell-Dawes with good work from forwards Harry Richardson, Cameron, Georgel and Dylan Owen.
In the second half Dylan Owen for Tavistock ran through from halfway only to be tackled 2m out. Ollie Sampson recycled the ball to allow Dylan to get up and finish the try. Further tries came from Edwards and Varndell-Dawes.

TAVISTOCK scrum half Dan Pett gave his side the upper hand with Harry Edwards and James Kenyon using their guile to find gaps and score. Jack Bellamy, Cameron Hart and Rueben Coleman forming a solid wall of defence, Jack Baker clearing mauls ferociously and Tom Gardener supporting attacks. Tries from Ollie Samspson, Dan Pett, Henry Varndell-Dawes and Dylan Owen in another good performance from the team.

DILLON Nicholas, the Okehampton captain, led the team with the sun at their backs for the first half. The game started well and the ball was passed from one side of the field to the other. Paignton got the better of the first few exchanges but it was Theodore Jackson-Clist who scored the first try to give Oke a deserved lead. Paignton responded with two tries before half time break to gain the advantage.
The second half saw more expansive rugby and the two teams exchanged tries with Theo again crossing the line for Oke. Late in the game a superb run and tackle from behind from Oke's Tom Chapman snuffed out a game sealing opportunity for the visitors.
In the final minutes Oke's Edward Luke made a darting run for the try line evading several defenders and was strong enough to cross the line and score an equalising try.

TAVISTOCK U8s continued their impressive form and got off to a flying start. Their supporting play was encouraging and they were first to the ball every time it was loose. In defence they were competitive making some good tags against some fast Devonport players.
In the second half Tavistock's passing was the telling factor earning them an 11-8 victory. Ollie Carty did well as captain and Jack Lane was player of the match for his 3 tries.

DEVONPORT had the better of the first half. Tavistock's tagging deserted them and they dropped a number of passes in good positions. Trailing 6-5 at half time they rallied in the second half with good supporting play, fluid passing and good tagging.
Ollie Pett was forceful as captain and Alex Richardson, three tries, was player of the match. Other Tavistock scorers were Joe Wheeldon 4, Jonathan Griffiths and Freddie Fuller (3 each), Liam Watt (2) and Ollie Pett and Ted Kenyon.

Paignton U8s 13 tries
PAIGNTON started with only six players so Alex and Ethan from Okehampton make the numbers up. Morgan was captain and showed what great progress he has made with some superb running. Paignton took the lead early on and led throughout, playing well and showed some great handling skills in the wet conditions.
Try scorers for Oke were Finlay, Llew, Morgan, Joe , Marcus 3 and Ethan 2 . As always the young Okes played with great determination.

JOE was Oke captain for the second game and led from the front with some great tagging. The whole team's performance improved as the sun came out, and there were some great tries from Matt, Morgan, Alex, Cameron, Marcus, Joe, Ethan (2) and player of the match Isaac Whitby (3) and was outstanding in both attack and defence.
Okehampton were unlucky not to come away with a victory.

THIS was a good game with two well matched teams. William for Okehampton made a great pass from the floor Dan who was unlucky not to score. William and Dan both worked hard and covered distance on the pitch to get closer to scoring. Adam took advantage of a loose ball and charged on through to score.
In the second half Shea took some superb tags along with the quick footed Saul.
Tries were scored by William (1), Dan (1), Adam (3), Saul (3) and Grady (1). Great teamwork was also shown by Finn, Alex, Lachlann, Archie, Josh C, Josh B, Jacob, Korben and Liam.

THIS was a fast paced game with everyone working well together. The persistent visitors kept trying to edge towards the try line but the home team kept them at bay for sometime before breaking away for Adam to run the length of the pitch and score.
Archie and Adam took a succession of tags and Alex put in some determined runs. Tries were scored William (1), Adam (2), Dan (1), Grady (1), Saul (2), Alex (1) and Lachlann (1). Credit also to Alex, Archie, Grady and William, who played for Paignton.
