Devon seconds E West Whitchurch seconds v Yelverton thirds YELVERTON proved to be too strong for Whitchurch, winning by six wickets with five overs to spare on a lovely sunny if humid day. Ben Powell (17) and Ben Hodge (14) gave the home team a solid start with an opening partnership of 34 before Powell was well caught by Farnham. Payne (4-22) was proving dangerous, quickly snaring Hodge and Ord, leaving Whitchurch on 42-3. With captain Wallace (16) back in the pavilion Whitchurch were rocking. Tom Dunne (20) continued his recent good form with a partnership of 95 with veteran Bob Powell (94 not out). With Poole (28) also forming a partnership of 59 with Powell Whitchurch progressed nicely over 200. Marshalling the tail end Powell was unlucky not to achieve a well deserved hundred. A score of 221 gave Whitchurch something to defend. Poole (1-22) and Hall (0-35) kept the runs down in the early overs with Poole getting opener Brian Spear out for 10. Ben Spear(69) joined Luke Julian (90 not out) and formed a partnership of 139 which effectively took the game away from Whitchurch. Taking few chances and scoring some delightful boundaries there was little that Whitchurch could do. When Hodge (2-46) finally had Spear it only brought in Jones who scored a quick fire 18, bringing Yelverton within reach of the total. The visitors came through as comfortable winners.
