THE twelfth Open Jujitsu Workshop organised by Ju Jitsu Tavistock took place in Tavistock and gave martial artists from the South West the opportunity to take part in a top class event.

The workshop was held at Tavistock College and was well attended with more than 70 martial artists, ranging from beginners to black belt fifth dan from all over the South West and as far away as Swindon, Basingstoke and Wales.

The guest instructor from Italy was Piero Rovigatti ninth dan in the art of Goju Ryu Jujitsu.

Umberto Bergonzini, the club instructor and organiser, told the Times: 'It was another great event which everybody enjoyed. I think this was probably the largest martial arts gathering which has taken place in Tavistock.

'I would like to thank all the participants for making the day such a great success.

'My thanks also go to the college for making their facilities available and helping Tavistock in consolidating its position as a highly professional place to train in the martial arts.

'Anyone is welcome to come and try jujitsu be it for fitness, confidence building or wanting to learn self-defence. The first month is free.

'Anyone interested in trying jujitsu can join in one of the classes which take place in Tavistock, Launceston and Tamerton Foliot in Plymouth. Beginners are always welcome.'
