THE Tavy Club in Tavistock held its first tournament which ran throughout the winter of 2012-13.

It consisted of four groups based on a round robin system with the top two from each progressing to the quarter finals, where it then became a knock-out competition.

The group one qualifiers were Keith Morris and Jonny Watters; group 2, Nigel Ryall and Ian Grainger; group 3, Bradley Anderson and Mike Symons; group 4, Dean Anderson and Rees Watters.

In the quarter-finals Morris (scratch) lost to Grainger (+21) by 4-3 in frames; J Watters (-7) also won 4-3 against N Ryall (scr), despite the highest competition break of 60 from the latter. Anderson (-28) lost 4-0 to Symons (scr) while the fourth quarter final between R Watters (+21) and Bradley Anderson (+21) was a closer affair with Rees Watters coming through 4-2.

The semi-finals saw Symons see off the challenge of Grainger, winning 4-0. In the other semi Jonny Watters had a close encounter with his son Rees before dad emerged the winner by 4-3. The final, over seven frames, was Jonny Watters beat Mike Symons 5-2 in a scrappy affair with no breaks.

The success of the competition, enjoyed by everyone who took part, means the club will now be organising it on an annual basis.
