His opponent was the Newquay boxer Ryan Wells. At the start of the second round Theo had to take a standing eight count after a good blow from Wells and after an exchange of blows in a corner the referee stopped the contest in favour of the Newquay man.
The referee and officials congratulated Theo on a spirited performance and praised his attitude.
On Friday Tavistock ABC boxer Pete Jarman was in action in the Western Counties semi-final at light heavyweight held at Devonport. Pete was matched against Parkstone ABC’s Martin Warren. In the third round the Parkstone man came storming out of his corner but Pete weathered this onslaught and used his straight punching and better footwork to consolidate his lead.
In the finals, held in the Pittville Pump Rooms, Cheltenham, Jarman’s opponent was the Gloucester ABC boxer Darren Jackson. In the third round the pace increased again and Pete upped the work rate, responding to the increase in kind and began to dominate, giving much cleaner punches and some good footwork.
Pete Jarman was declared the unanimous winner on points and is now the Western Counties Champion at 81kg. He will now go on to face other regional champions in the National Championships.
