IN division one of the Okehampton and district table tennis league, Anchorage A were at home against league leaders Tavistock.
The visitors who raced into a 6-0 lead before Malcolm Hopkins took Peter Hicks to a five leg decider just losing out 5-11 in the fifth. Colin Brooker also pushed Peter just losing out 3-0.
Tavistock lead 9-0 in the doubles. Colin Jones and Malcolm pushed Fred Phillips and Roger Bowkett. Fred and Roger held out to win 3-0 for another 10-0 win.
Academy played against the Mixtures. Tom Pearce was pushed to a five-leg decider against Martin Rose, Tom just winning three sets to two. To put Academy 1-0 ahead Steve Tyler levelled at 1-0 beating Ben Hill.
In straight sets Steve went on to score a fine maximum. Karen Stevenson beat Tom Pengelly to put the Mixtures 2-1 ahead. Academy were ahead 5-4 after the singles but Martin and Steve beat Tom Pearce and Ben Hill in the doubles for an honourable draw, 5-5.
The last division one match, Okehampton A played Anchorage A. Bob David put Anchorage 1-0 ahead being the first player to beat Naomi Jackson 3-2, he then went on to score his second maximum to keep is 100% record in singles but it was not enough to stop the Jackson family of Naomi, Nick and Sarah from winning the match 6-4. Although Naomi and Nick had to pull out all the stops to beat Bob and Colin Jones in the doubles 3-2.
In division two Walkhampton were at home against Okehampton B, Ben Edmunds scored his third maximum of the season supported by Heath Marker and Miles Pinkney with two singles each and won the doubles against Mark Ralph and Maureen Venton for a convincing 8-2 win.
Dick Randell won the two singles for Okehampton.
The next match Okehampton C played league leaders Milton Abbot A. Michael Blatchford did well to beat Richard Rose who won the first two legs 16-14 and 11-5. Michael taking the next three to put Milton Abbot 1-0 ahead. Otilia Pochet scored a maximum and Ian Osborne two singles. Frank Cockburn won two for Okehampton and joined Richard in the doubles beating Michael and Otilia in the doubles for a 7-3 win for Milton Abbot.
The next match saw Moretonhampstead play Okehampton C. Ken Underhill beat Ben Bolton and Brian Skilton beat Richard Rose to put Moretonhampstead 2-0 ahead. Frank Cockburn won the next against Graham Adnitt and went on to score a fine maximum. Richard Rose beat Graham in a hard fought game 3-2. Frank and Richard won the doubles against Brian and Graham for a 5-5 draw.
In the last division two match, leaders Milton Abbot A played second placed Anchorage B and won 8-2. Otilia Pochet and Tim Westcott both scored maximums. Dave Wilson and Dave Vanstone won the two for Anchorage.
