Tavistock ladies firsts 1
TAVISTOCK ladies met top of the league Plymouth University this weekend, sitting just above them in the league table.
The game started well with both teams piling on immediate pressure. Uni had a number of early short corners but some hard fought battling from the Tavistock backline and goalkeeper Viggers kept the home attack at bay.
With both teams playing at a high intensity and slamming on the pressure at either end the game could have gone either way. However, two minutes before the half time whistle Uni won a short corner. With the first shot cleared away it was the rebound that went into the top corner of the Tavistock net.
Following the half time team talk from coach Fenwick, the girls were ready to fight. Both sides were unfortunate after a number of goal scoring opportunities but it was Shillaw who shined demonstrating her determination to fight for the ball for Tavistock.
After winning the ball on the half way line, the young midfielder carried the ball past a number of the university defenders to successively win Tavistock’s first short corner of the game.
University found themselves a defender short for breaking the line too early. The Tavistock attack took advantage of the corner overload. With a perfectly placed strike from Armstrong the away side celebrated a well deserved equalising goal. The remainder of the game fell slightly in the Reds favour although neither team was able to force a winner.
