BOTH the main final and plate final of Tavistock Squash Club’s annual Racketball Trophy competition was played.
The plate was played between Maggie Lilley and Kate Wright. Despite Kate playing some of her best racketball, Maggie’s determination and ability to play the right shot at the right time proved decisive. There was some great shots from both players and some great rallies, but the final result was 3-0 to Maggie with the game scores being 15-11, 15-11 and 15-12.
With an increasing number of members playing racketball the club had a new player in the main final with Clive Marais, who was also the top seed; he played the two times previous winner Nigel Eadie. This proved a hard fought match with both players giving it their all resulting in some great play and long rallies.
Clive started strongly to take the first game 11-8 but Nigel fought back to make it 1-1 with an 11-8 win in the second. The next two games were close but Clive managed to win both with the scores 11-9 and then 12-10 to take the title 3-1.
This was an entertaining match for those watching and was a good advert for the game at the club.
