GUNNISLAKE Football Club held a successful end of season presentation evening at Tavistock Golf Club. Secretary Michael Kinger opened the evening by everyone to stand and observe a minutes silence to remember club former secretary Godfrey Smale and former player John Pote who both died recently. Michael thanked all those who had made a contribution to the club during the past 12 months including thanking the club's many sponsors and Nigel and Bridget Doidge who organised the event.
Last season's managers Mark Southcott (first team) and Andy Brown (reserves) then spoke of the season before, with assistance from vice president Charlie Courtis, they presented the individual awards.
Awards: Dave Davies, the player's player and leading scorer trophies for the first team; Mike King.the manager's player trophy. Reserve team manager's player, Ed Allen; Ryan James, player's player trophy; Glenn Tremblett, leading scorer. Ryan James, the young player trophy; Simon Thomas, the Sportsman trophy; Andy Brown, club person.
For the 2012/13 season Mark Southcott steps down from the first team manger's role and the club's committee has been swift to promote Andy Brown to this position. Andy will jointly manage the team with Darren O'Melia who assisted Andy last season. Mark will manage the reserve team.
Training began yesterday (June 20). The next session will be on Tuesday, June 26 and thereafter sessions will be every Wednesday. Each session will be from 7pm to 9 p.m. and at the playing fields St Annes Chapel.
After a two year absence managing and coaching senior football, Joe Pulley returns to the club as player coach and he will spearhead a coaching team that will include last season's coach Matt Avery.
The club looks forward to welcoming back all last seasons players and is keen to attract new players. The club continues to promote youth having fielded many teenagers in recent seasons in both its teams complimenting its many more experienced players. Anyone interested in attending training please feel free to turn up or if you prefer you can speak to Andy Brown calling him on 07909 335764. Players of any position are welcome. A number of friendlies have been arranged and these begin mid July.
Gunnislake Football Club will field two teams this season with the first team playing in Duchy division one and the reserves in Duchy division four.
New faces are always welcome on the club committee as is additional support and sponsorship. The club will hold its annual meeting on Monday, July 9 at 7.30 pm in the Buccaneer Inn, Gunnislake.
