ON A pleasant Sunday the West Devon area finals were played at the Ring in Tavistock.

Tavistock met Whitchurch in the first semi final. Whitchurch batted first and despite a good innings from Rob Bone struggled to post a good score with three run outs not helping the cause.

Aaron Churchill's 3 for 22 was the best of the Tavistock bowlers.

Tavistock's reply was based around Jonty Newton who made 59 and this reached the target with overs to spare.

Ben Hodge's 3-11 was the pick of the bowlers.

In the second semi final a close game ensued between old rivals Lewdown and Bridestowe.

Batting first the Ewen brothers scored well to set up a good total of 151. Lewdown steadily overhauled their target. Harry Geering and Billy Searle kept them in the chase and they crossed the line with four balls to spare.

The final was a see sawing affair. Lewdown batted first and lost five wickets for less than 40. However, Harry Geering batted superbly to rescue his side. Rarely in 20 over games will a batsman reach 100 but Geering managed it with the last ball of the innings to set up an above average score of 174.

Aaron Churchill 5-12 was an outstanding piece of bowling, normally match winning.

Tavistock's reply was steady but they kept losing wickets at vital times. Shaun Daymond was the best batsman with a good 48, Jonty Newton's 28 was the next best score and innings ended at 131. Billy Searle and Jack Williams each returned identical figures of 3-23, giving Lewdown victory by 43 runs.

Harry Geering was the man of the match, deserving it for his super 100.

Organisers thanked all the people that helped on the day, tea ladies, bar staff, Barry Milligan, umpires and scorers. It was a great day enjoyed by all.
