THE Tavi Specials received a £1,000 grant from the Devon Community Foundation which was set up to help fund local projects which change lives.
After seeing the success of its growing group the Devon Community Foundation were happy to support the teams that give sporting opportunities to those with learning disabilities.
Every week new people join them at training and some nights around 50 peolple attend their Friday night training session on the Tavistock Community Sports Centres pitches.
The group has five teams now and includes two adult mens sides, a ladies' team, U16s and now U12s.
'With eight trained coaches , two drivers/helpers and a referee the future looks bright. Just last Sunday we had a friendly match against Plymouth Argyle's youngsters and everyone had a great time,' said group treasurer Sheena Lewis. 'Life changing! is what the parents say about the Tavi Specials and with this grant we can keep our standards high!'
