Old Plymouth Mannameadians 2
Tavistock B 1
FIELDING its youngest team to date clearly demonstrates the development policy of Tavistock Hockey Club with Year 10 and 11 students among their players.
Changes within the team invariably meant that Tavistock’s usual flowing game was lacking to some extent. but its midfield pressed hard with Bott and Whitson-Fey linking well and using the width to find Buckeridge-Hobbs on the left; he made some strong runs into the heart of the OPMs defence. Not neglecting his defensive duties Buckeridge-Hobbs was next found running hard to help out our back four.
Campbell found Mason, free on the right, made a strong cross from distance which went straight across the ’D’ only to find a well marked Buckeridge-Hobbs. The resolute defence of Tanner, Cull, Bellamy and Bicknell held out for long periods, but the goals did come after periods of sustained pressure. Facing a mountain to climb with the team 2-0 down the team worked hard to get back into the game and upped their efforts to create some good chances, the best falling to Ho whose strong shot on target was denied by the OPM”s keeper. In the dying moments, pressing hard the B team were awarded a short corner.
With the entire team pressing forward Campbell scored his first of the season with the last touch of the game, which made the final score a little more respectable and with a few more minutes of game play a draw Tavistock could have been achieved and a just point gained.
