THERE was a day to remember for the Tavispecials, when they took on a football team from the police last weekend.
Ultimately, the Tavispecials beat the police side on penalties after a 8-8 draw. Mark 'the shark' Ralph was the only player to score from the spot! Even the attending SuperintendEnt from Plymouth failed to fool keeper Ben Burnard by pulling faces and shot wide, bringing roars of pleasure from the Specials on the sideline.
With police officers in the force kit and supporters arriving in uniform the atmoshere at Tavistock Community Sports Centre was electric.
The adult specials side stepped up to the challenge with Jake Riddolls netting four goals! His goal celebrations were worthy of a Hollywood performance and had the large group of spectators in hysterics. Andy Trigger, in his goal hanging role, tucked one away and Jack Talbot smashed one in from close range.
Everyone played the fixture in the right spirit and once again football had a big smile on its face. The police, who work closely with the Tavispecials members in our community, were given the chance to break down more barriers and they really did, to make some new friends.
As the adult side played their game TCFC U13s played a fun game with younger members from the specials and the giant ball added to the fun.
All came went back to the Tavy Club for refreshments and players were presented certificates to mark the occasion by the chief officer which brought even more pleasure to members.
Allen Lewis of Tavispecials said: 'Once again we had a day to remember and once again our guys went home happy.
'A huge thank you to the police side for giving up their time to help our club they were a credit, so we are all winners , thank you all!'
